Introducing

Fine Jewellery by Mike Shorer

Mike Shorer creates bespoke fine jewellery using traditional goldsmithing techniques, exceptional materials, and an artist’s sensitivity to form, proportion, and detail. Each piece is hand-crafted in his East Sussex studio using platinum and high-carat golds, and set with carefully selected precious and rare gemstones, including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, tanzanite, spinel, and other exceptional stones.

Rooted in fine art, historic jewellery, and meticulous craftsmanship, Mike’s fine jewellery is designed to endure beyond fashion — refined, wearable works of art intended to be collected, worn, and passed down as heirlooms for future generations.

The Commissioning Process

Commissioning a bespoke piece of fine jewellery is a collaborative and considered process. Mike works closely with each client to understand their ideas, preferences, and intentions, guiding them through design, gemstone selection, and material choices.

Every commission is individually designed and hand-crafted in Mike’s East Sussex studio, using traditional goldsmithing techniques and carefully selected platinum, high-carat golds, and gemstones. From the earliest sketches through to the finished piece, each stage is approached with precision, artistic sensitivity, and respect for the materials. The result is jewellery that is not only technically exceptional, but deeply personal — created to be worn, cherished, and passed on.

Bespoke Fine Jewellery Commissions

Three Diamond Cocktail Ring

This bespoke cocktail ring features three emerald-cut diamonds of differing sizes and natural colour, ranging from blue-white to yellow and light cognac. Each stone is individually set in a hand-made platinum rub-over setting, allowing the subtle variation in tone to create visual depth and contrast. Designed as a statement piece, this ring demonstrates the versatility of bespoke fine jewellery, with designs adaptable to any gemstone shape, type, or colour.

Tanzanite and Diamond Ring

An elegant 18 carat yellow gold and platinum ring centred on a large facetted oval tanzanite. The scallop-sided setting allows maximum light entry to enhance the stone’s natural colour and brilliance. A brilliant-cut diamond set on either side provides balance and refinement, creating a timeless fine jewellery design.

Tanzanite Cross Pendant

This striking cross pendant showcases a rare 25-carat tanzanite set in textured and highly polished platinum. The open design allows light to enter and reflect from every angle, revealing the stone’s exceptional colour and clarity. A powerful example of bespoke pendant design for large and important gemstones.

Amethyst and Diamond Statement Ring

A dramatic statement ring featuring a central facetted oval amethyst, flanked by two semi-circular diamonds. The amethyst is set in 18 carat yellow gold to intensify its colour, while the diamonds are traditionally set in platinum for contrast and brilliance. A bold yet balanced piece of contemporary fine jewellery.

Bespoke Silver and Gold Necklace

“I really do like a challenge, especially when it involves micro-engineering invisible hinges.”

This commissioned necklace combines micro-engineering with artistic expression. Crafted in silver with finely engineered invisible hinges, the piece sits comfortably and fluidly around the neck. Contrasting textures are created by melting 18 carat gold ‘dust’ into the silver surface before gilding the edges, resulting in a highly personal and sculptural fine jewellery design.

Five Diamond Statement Ring

“She screamed with delight when she opened the presentation case!”

Designed for maximum impact this ring features five perfectly matched oval diamonds, each weighing 1.5 carats. Set at a dramatic angle around the finger, the stones create exceptional movement and light play. A confident statement ring that exemplifies precision setting and refined extravagance.

Diamond and Peridot Ring

“I’d like some green stones with a diamond, but not emeralds – hence this little cracker was born!”

This bespoke ring pairs a central brilliant-cut diamond set in platinum with two trilliant-cut peridots held in 18 carat yellow gold. Selected for their vivid green colour and vitality, the peridots offer a distinctive alternative to emeralds, demonstrating Mike Shorer’s thoughtful and unconventional approach to gemstone selection.

Swiss Blue Topaz and Spinel Necklace

Created through close collaboration between client and maker, this exceptional necklace features Swiss blue topaz and pink spinel in a variety of shapes and sizes. Each stone is individually set in hand-made 18 carat white gold settings, linked by finely engineered invisible hinges that allow the necklace to sit perfectly when worn. The large oval drop pendant is removable, allowing the necklace to be worn alone or styled with alternative pendants.

Ceylon Sapphire and Diamond Ring

“Ah, sapphires… they come in a multitude of colours and shades, but the best is this cornflower blue.”

This refined ring features a cornflower blue Ceylon sapphire, prized for its clarity and depth of colour. Set in platinum, the sapphire is flanked by princess-cut diamonds, creating a classic and timeless fine jewellery composition.

Prasiolite Torc Necklace

This sculptural piece explores the elegance of a single continuous curve, forming a hybrid between a torc and a necklace. Set with an unusual oval prasiolite cut in a checkerboard pattern, the design highlights surface texture and light play. A distinctive example of contemporary fine jewellery with sculptural presence.

Swiss Blue Topaz Diamond Pendant and Earrings

“One of my favourite phrases – big is best.”

These bold fine jewellery designs centre on Swiss blue topaz gemstones cut in a checkerboard pattern and surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds set in platinum. The earrings feature ear posts with sprung loops for secure wear, while the pendant is suspended from an Italian Spiga chain chosen for strength, elegance, and ideal length.

Stackable Diamond Rings

“Stack’em baby – awesome 18 carat yellow gold and brilliant cut diamond rings.”

This versatile design comprises a set of 18 carat yellow gold rings set with brilliant-cut diamonds, intended to be worn individually or stacked together. The concept can be adapted using gemstones of varying sizes, shapes, or colours, offering a playful yet refined approach to bespoke fine jewellery design.

Modern Silver Torc Necklace

“This is like a necklace that Cruella de Ville might wear.”

A contemporary interpretation of the traditional torc, this necklace was crafted from a single piece of silver. The piece flexes subtly to fit the neck before locking into place, allowing the stones set along its flowing curves to be fully displayed. Inspired by movement and landscape, it combines technical ingenuity with sculptural form.

Gemstone Name Bracelet

“Come on, test me: let’s see what gems we can come up with for your name.”

Part of a bespoke series, this bracelet incorporates gemstones corresponding to the initials of the wearer’s name. Created using either hinged links or solid bangles, each stone is selected for both meaning and beauty, resulting in a deeply personal piece of fine jewellery.

Diamond Line Necklace

“This one took a while but looked incredible when worn.”

This extraordinary diamond line necklace was created using the client’s own uncut natural diamonds. Each irregular stone required a bespoke hand-made platinum setting with a hidden hinge, allowing the necklace to move fluidly around the neck. Comprising 477 individual platinum components and set with over 62 carats of coloured natural diamonds, this piece stands as a masterwork of fine jewellery craftsmanship.
